Orthodontic Specialty

Orthodontics is so much more than just getting that perfect smile. Orthodontics also helps to keep your mouth healthy.

Orthodontic treatment helps to move teeth that are crooked or that aren’t positioned correctly. When your teeth are crooked they can be harder to keep clean, which then puts you at risk for cavities and other related problems.

The benefits to receiving orthodontic care include a more pleasing appearance, teeth that will last you a lifetime and most importantly a healthier mouth.

Our Orthodontist will utilize all the latest technology and tools, which include, but are not limited to: a full medical and dental health history, clinical exam, models/impressions, special x-rays and professional photographs, at their disposal to create the best treatment plan for your child.

There are many different types of appliances which are used to help correct your teeth and/or jaws.

Growth Modification

Growth modification is part of the first phase of a two-stage orthodontic treatment to correct or prevent a bad bite (malocclusion). There is an optimal age to begin jaw growth modification, even though an orthodontist can straighten teeth at any age. It is best to complete growth modification when the patient is still growing, as we are able to take advantage of their growing years to guide the jawbone to proper formation by using orthodontic appliances. We use various appliances to change the shape, position, width, or length of jawbone(s).

In order to determine the ideal time to start growth modification treatment we need to determine the stage of growth of the jaws. The ideal age varies from patient to patient, during your consultation we will evaluate whether the jaw bones align in an overbite or an underbite.

Jaw misalignment can be corrected as an adult, although it will likely need to be fixed through surgery.

Appliances

In order to give you correctly aligned teeth as well as aligned and properly-functioning jaws, we use various appliances. Here are some of the most common appliances:

  • Palatal Expander
  • Headgear
  • Reverse Pull Headgear
  • MARA
  • Herbst Fixed Appliances
  • Twin Block
  • Bionator
Conventional Braces

Braces are some of the most common fixed appliances. They consist of bands, brackets and/or wires. They are a lot more comfortable and are much smaller and flatter than in braces used in the past.

They are traditionally made of only the highest quality stainless steel or titanium. Braces create a constant pressure on your teeth which then helps to move the teeth into their correct position.

Our Orthodontist will regularly check the braces and may tighten the wire. It is possible for the patient to notice their teeth feeling a little loose. That is completely normal, that feeling will go away once the teeth are done moving.

Conventional metal braces are the most popular and cost-effective of orthodontic treatment, it also does take the less time. You can also change up your braces by choosing colorful elastics for the brackets, or other kinds of modifications.

Tooth Colored Braces

We do offer tooth colored braces, which are less noticeable than having metallic brackets and wires. Clear braces are a more attractive alternative to conventional braces.

Advantages/Disadvantages to tooth colored braces

Just like with any other treatment, it is important to choose the best option for your needs. Our orthodontist will help you determine if tooth colored braces are the right option for you.

The advantages to tooth colored braces

  • They are less noticeable than conventional braces. They are an esthetic option.
  • Clear braces give you more confidence

The disadvantages to tooth colored braces

  • They definitely cost more than metal braces, although we do offer convenient payment plan options to help you with the costs of treatment. You can find more financial information here.
  • They tend to get discolored easily, especially when drinking colored drinks and foods.

Our orthodontist will provide answers to any questions you may have and will determine the best treatment option for you.

Clear Invisalign®

Clear Invisalign treatment is an alternative to conventional braces, as it straightens your teeth without using wires and brackets. Invisalign uses a series of clear, fully-customized, removable appliances which are called aligners. The aligners are virtually invisible and are comfortable as well. Since they are removable you do not have restrictions as to what you can eat or drink during the duration of the orthodontic treatment. Another added benefit, is that it’s a lot easier to brush and floss.

Clear Invisalign aligners are created by using advanced 3D computer imaging technology combining as well the science of orthodontics. Invisalign has proven to be an effective form of orthodontic treatment.

Clear invisalign aligners are created and designed to help move your teeth in small stages to reach the desired final position as treated by your orthodontist. Each aligner is manufactured and precisely calibrated to fit your mouth. You will be given a set of aligners which you will wear at all times, except when you eat, brush and floss. When you replace each aligner, your teeth will move gradually until you finally reach the desired result.

Invisalign treatment is a wonderful alternative to getting that beautiful smile and straight teeth that you’ve always wanted.
